"And the house of Elrond was a refuge for the weary and the oppressed, and a treasury of good counsel and wise lore." J.R.R. Tolkien
Rivendell, home of Elrond. My diorama is an attempt to capture the grandeur and elegance of the Elven refuge with waterfalls, soaring trees and graceful architecture. I have maintained the colour scheme of the Lego set #79006 as it is quite lovely and there could be a feature of the diorama where the Lego set can be attached.
The technique for the curved rock wall uses S.N.O.T. (Studs Not On Top) and click hinges to achieve a graceful and gentle curvature (see last picture of the work in progress). The waterfall utilises clear fiber optic Lego tubing to simulate water elegantly descending over a cliff. A play features include a removable roof to access the stately bedroom where Frodo recuperates from his wond on Mount Weathertop. Other features include a contemplation courtyard and a lookout tower where an Elven guard keeps watch. Also the curved walkway that leads to the watchtower is in fact built around an old tree, in keeping with the Elven spirit of architecture that encompasses Nature, rather than dominating it.
