Woof! Woof!
The Border Collie has been a trusted working dog and family companion animal since the time of Old Hemp (the earliest known photographed Border Collie) of 1893.
Since then, the breed has consistently been within the top 100 most popular breeds, combining natural intelligence with affectionate nature. Nowadays, you can see Border Collies everywhere, in many different colours with the traditional being the humble black-and-white.
This build was inspired by my own beloved dog Clodagh. A gentle (and albeit lazy) soul who always comforts whenever times are tough, or, who steals the bed when the electric blanket is on in winter.
A human's best friend really is a dog. They'll never judge you and they'll always welcome you home no matter what kind day you have had. Their unconditional love has gotten me through tough times, which is why I think it is time we immortalized our best friend in Lego and what better breed to start with than the Border Collie!
This design came completely from trial and error, around 36 hours of build time and two trips to my local Lego shop for parts. It is my largest self-designed build ever.
I believe it captures the playful essence of my best friend, tail in the air and waiting for a scratch, or a ball to be thrown, or just to lick me all over my face after a hard day at work.
I believe this sculpture is for anyone: the fans of previous large-builds, the fans of any animal series, but mostly - this one is for the dog lovers. No collection is complete (just as no house is complete) without a dog!
