The FIFA WORLD CUP
The FIFA World Cup Trophy is a gold trophy awarded to the winners of the Football World Cup.
Since the creation of the planetary tournament in 1930, two trophies have been awarded : the « Jules Rimet Cup » from 1930 to 1970, definitively retained by Brazil after its first three victories in the competition and the FIFA World Cup, awarded at every edition since 1974.
In the early 1970s, FIFA - International Federation of Football Associations - commissioned a new trophy for the tenth edition of the World Cup. Fifty-three sculpture proposals were received from seven countries. The Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga's proposal was finally chosen.
The Trophy measures 36.5 cm and weighs 6.175 kg. It is made of 75% solid gold, with a 13 cm diameter base containing two pieces of malachite (green stripes). The trophy features two sportsmen lifting a globe. It was first presented at the 1974 Football World Cup.

This new FiFA World Cup model is life-size and proportionate. It measures 36.2 cm and weighs 1.275 kg, with a base diameter of 18 studs. It comprises 1,725 parts. As in the real thing, the two figures lifting the globe can be distinguished by their heads, arms and hands. The drapery surrounding the figures is also symbolized by a set of bricks, wedges and slopes.
The challenge for this creation was to imagine the conical base of the trophy using a construction technique based on Plate Modified 1 x 2 with Tow Ball and Small Tow Ball Socket on Ends (Item N° 14419), and to ensure a solid and aesthetic transition to the upper part, where the figures supporting the globe are found, using another technique mainly in SNOT (stud down). The whole thing is easy to lift. A real-life production of this FIFA World Cup enabled to verify the construction principles.
