Sandcrawlers were huge mobile fortresses which could be seen on the deserts of Tatooine, used by the Jawas as their transport and shelter. They were equipped with a magnetic suction tube for sucking droids and scrap into the cargo hold. They were equipped with cargo holds, scrap processing facilities and quarters for crew and passengers. They were large enough to fit an entire Jawa clan. The Sandcrawler is most famous from the scene in Star Wars episode IV where R2-D2 and C3PO are chosen to work on the farm.
After seeing the UCS versions which are huge, I decided on building a 400 piece version. By using the small treads I quickly decided on the scale and it was done in just a coulple of days. It has working steering and can open up on many sides. The build has a strong box-like frame and the sides are all plating. The characters are dad, R5-D4, R2-D2 C-3PO and 2 Jawas.
