No way… That’s great… We……
finally got immortalized into a LEGO set!
In honor of one of the most beloved comedies, which continues to make audiences everywhere laugh hysterically, this is LEGO DUMB AND DUMBER!!!
Now, let’s take a look at what this set has to offer and all the different things you can reenact from the movie…
You can go for a ride in Lloyd’s limousine, complete with the Lloyd minifigure in his (don’t worry I’m a) limo driver attire. Then, pick up the Mary Samsonite (EDIT: Swanson) minifigure and drop her off at the airport (briefcase and airbag included). Along the way, don’t forget to invite a nice Austrian woman over for a barbecue!
Next, you can take a spin in the Mutt Cutts van, complete with the Harry minifigure in the full Mutt Cutts suit, as well as Rascal the dog (ketchup and mustard, roast beef au jus, Wienerschnitzel, and footlong also included). Just don’t forget the comb for proper grooming. Bonus points if you can launch the van off an incline, scrape the tongue, but still keep everything else intact! If not, you can just trade it straight up for the minifigure moped a.k.a. the hog. It gets 70 miles to the gallon and comes with extra gloves!
And just when you thought this set couldn’t possibly get any Dumber… you can stop by Harry and Lloyd’s iconic apartment building. Take a stroll down the pathway to the entrance and say hi to Billy in 4C and Petey. Then, find the hidden handle around the back of the building and you can slide their entire living room out to get the full effect of Petey’s cage, the “I Got Worms” (that’s what we’re gonna call it) tank, and the rest of their living situation in all of its Dumb glory. Finally, when the “Gas Man” comes to collect, you can slide the living room back into the building, and Harry and Lloyd can make their escape out the window and off to Aspen, California… which, according to the map, is only a few inches away! (Ski outfits and orange and blue tuxedos included)
Now it’s really time to hang by the bricks and put out the vibe! This set just has too many Dumb things to count. Minifigures galore and Dumb little easter eggs are around every corner (feel free to add a comment with your favorite one). It’s probably a 1 in a million chance that it will become an official LEGO product, but (if you vote for it) you’re telling me there’s a chance!!!
On a more serious note, as comical and goofy as the movie is, it actually holds a very special place in my heart. In the very first scene, Lloyd thinks the woman’s accent is from New Jersey - where my father grew up. However, she is actually from Austria - where my mother grew up. To make things even more interesting, although the filmmakers led everyone to believe Harry and Lloyd were in Providence, Rhode Island and Aspen, Colorado, much of the film was actually filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah - where I grew up. The apartment building was 15 minutes away from my childhood home and the man playing the saxophone at the “International Preservation Society” dinner was my saxophone teacher!
Through these connections, I became very fond of the movie as a child, even though I didn't quite understand most of the jokes. Then, as I got older, I came to realize the immense hilarity it has to offer and I truly believe it is one of those unique movies where the actors and writing come together in such a perfect way that it creates an all-time classic. I watch it at least once a year and I'm pretty sure I can quote just about every line at this point. I’ve also sported some of the outfits from the movie at multiple halloween exhibitions in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. A good friend of mine and I even went to the sequel’s opening night dressed in the orange and blue tuxedos! It was then, through these experiences, that I began to discover the enormous following the movie has, and how much happiness and laughter it has brought to all of its fans. Those sentiments, coupled with how much joy LEGO brings to people, is really why I decided to build this set and why I think it has the potential to be an amazing LEGO product. Now that I think about it, I probably should’ve built it a lot sooner... Oops, I guess that was kinda... Dumb!
