First published in 1937, The Hobbit kickstarted a worldwide appreciation for fantasy. In 1954, The Fellowship of the Ring was published, followed shortly by The Two Towers and The Return of the King in the following years. Fantasy appeal found its footing in the minds of millions and The Lord of the Rings became a bestseller. Even today, Tolkien's universe is still going strong, with multiple screen and stage adaptions of the beloved books.
