So this is my newest creation. I've humorously dubbed it "the Gilded Goose", as it started out its not so humble life as one of the most overly decorated and garish creations I've ever made. After a major rebuild two days ago, it has on the contrary become one of the best cars I've ever made.
The first version of this car was actually so garishly opulent and tacky that even Louis XIV would be embarrassed to own it. It was thus dubbed "the Gilded Goose" which was quite befitting at that early stage in the design process, as it had large gold and white wings and gold details almost everywhere.
The final version that I'm submitting here, is however a lot more toned down and a lot more tastefully designed. I have however kept the name because it kinda stuck with me and because I think it's quite funny 😁
The car is inspired by a lot of cars from the 1930s, but most notably draws inspiration from the Auburn Speedster from 1935 and the Mercedes-Benz 500K from the same year.
The car has openable doors and trunk and has a lot of cool features and tons of interesting and somewhat challenging building techniques.
The car also has fully functional steering. I was able to make an incredibly low profile steering mechanism in just a couple of hours. The main mechanism is only two studs high and fits almost entirely inside the frame of the car underneath the engine bay. I'm actually really satisfied with it, as I don't think I've ever seen anybody else build a mechanism as compact as the one I've made for this car.
Design-wise I'm especially proud of the way the rear fenders near seamlessly integrate into the rest of the bodywork, and how the gold details accentuate the canopy and the side of the car. The curves, the lines and the proportions of the car are also some of the best I've ever achieved.
I love cars from the 20s, 30s and the 40s and I think LEGO should make a lot more large scale models of these wonders of automotive history. As it's nearing the 100 year anniversary for many of these cars, I actually think LEGO should make a line of models to truly honor the style of these wonderfully designed cars.
I know a lot of fellow car enthusiast both young and old will like this car and find it both interesting and somewhat challenging to build. And I'm certain that a lot of people would love to have this on display next to their other classic car models.
So enjoy "the Gilded Goose" in all its glory 😁 I hope you like it as much as I've grown to do.
And as always, I'm at all times open to suggestions and feedback. All feedback both positive and negative will be highly appreciated 😊 I love to hone and improve my skills, so every tip I get, that can improve my models, will be much welcome.
