Dear All,

 

Let’s celebrate today PSA Peugeot Citroën rally car Peugeot 405 (1980’s decade) with my new project :

Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 Pikes Peak Unlimited « Race to the Clouds » 1988 version

 

Worldwide known pilot Ari Vatanen won this race on july the 10th 1988 with new record time 10:47.220 … This aventure was immortalized in movie « Climb Dance » (by JL MOUREY) still available on video motion replay.

 

 

Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 Pikes Peak 1988 technical datas (original) :

Number built : 3

Vehicle control : both 4 wheels drive (4WD) and steering (4WS)

Engine type : L4 gasoline « XU9T » water cooled DOHC 16V positionned middle rear central transverse

Engine power : 800 HP @ 7500 rpm (sea level)

Engine torque : up to 700 Nm with break-Cutting regime @ 8500 rpm

Turbocharger : GARRETT T54 with relative pressure +2.8 bar @ altitude of 4000 meters

Vehicle performances : 0 to 200 km/h in less than 220 meters

Electronic Control Unit : 3x made by AEI Thomson and SOLEX

 

 

Then now my scale 1/7 model Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 Pikes Peak 1988 :

Length : 60.8cm (24 in) / Width : 27.2 cm (10.7 in) / Height : 22.4 cm (8.8 in)

 

All included functionnalities are :

x 4 WD powered by motor PF/XL using 3 differentials (front, middle, rear) as usual 4x4

x All wheels are driven and suspended independantly with 2 shocks absorbers each

x L4 petrol engine XU9T motorized with 1x PF/M

x Steering system motorized with PF/M with 3 stages reductor

x 2 sets of leds (front and rear) featuring Peugeot 405 front and rear light signatures

x 2 batteries & 1 IR transmitter

 

Systems included and represented on original included XU9T engine :

x Air intake with ACAV system (placed up & black)

x 3x fan blades for turbocharger GARRETT T54 and complementary fan to represent hydraulic extra-power system

x 2x massives Intercoolers (engine, air intake)

x 3x ECU represented back and up to passenger seat

 

Various Car body and habitacle colours :

x 2 seats designed with original colour

x Car numbered « 1 » as original

x 7 different colours positionned as original : black, white, red, yellow, 3x blue (light / medium / strong earth)

x Only conventional LEGO pieces without any stickers. You may note that numbers of parts can be seriously reduced when replacing various coloured parts pieces by stickers. Doing front and rear face costed me more than thousand parts …

 

Now very special greetings to my friend Marc who was involved in this project and physicaly present at Pikes Peak in 1988. I used his knowledge to develop this project as ultimate and conforming to the original as possible.
