Temple of Zeus, Olympia, Greece, 470-456 BC
With this reconstruction of a Doric temple in Lego bricks I wanted to pay tribute to the genius of the ancient Greeks . It is inspired by the temple of Zeus in Olympia, whose ideal proportions placed this temple as an architectural model! The only difference is the number of columns on the long side (here 12 instead of 13 in Olympia), in order to keep the rhythm of the Doric frieze compared to the Lego pieces.
Inside the temple was the famous statue of the god of Olympus, in gold and ivory, monumental work of the sculptor Phidias, which was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world!
I tried to restore the original colors, according to current archaeological data.
The images also allow you to see the interior of the temple with the naos and the divine statue.
Note that the pediments represent:
- to the east the preparations for the chariot race between Pelops and Œnomaos
- to the west the fight between the Centaurs and the Lapiths, under the eye of Apollo, the central figure
The model is in 1:75 scale.
