Amelia Earhart's Vega 5B

A lot has already been written about Amelia Earhart's famous solo trans-Atlantic flight, and the mystery surrounding her attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Suffice to say, I missed out on the 40450 gift-with-purchase set, but felt I could design one much more fitting :)

Design Background

This design was a challenge given the availability of certain parts in red color and the unique shaping of the fuselage and fixed upper wing, along with the unique characteristics and shaping of the windscreen. In fact, the only parts on this design that aren't currently or previously produced is the curved 3x3 corner bricks on the nose of the plane - these come in many basic colors, but red is not currently one of them.

Design Features

At approximately 850 pieces, 13.7" long, by 19.6" wide and 9" high (including stand), this model features:

  • Removable top for minifig placement
  • Removable engine cowling
  • Detailed brick-built radial engine
  • Adjustable vertical and horizontal stabilizers
  • Detailed interior, including seat. flight stick and rear 'jump seat'
  • Elegant display stand with informative display plaque and room for a minifigure
  • Nearly-studless design
  • Built to LEGO strength and connection standards
  • Uses currently-available colors and part molds

I hope you like it, and thank you for your support!
