*Design Concept and Inspiration
Romeo & Juliet 1996 by Baz Luhrmann is one of my most favorite romantic movies of the 90s. It captures the timeless tale of love with a blend of traditional and modern architecture of Capulet mansion, highlighting key scenes and adding innovative twists to celebrate love, happiness, and hope. This MOC model I want to draw a great picture of innovative storytelling in Romeo & Juliet to highlight “Love, Happiness, and Hope,” designed with approximately 4,510 LEGO pieces for celebrating the 30th anniversary (1996-2026)
*Exterior Design:
The building is designed with a L-shape layout to represent the emotional ascent of Romeo and Juliet’s love story. The model has a nice balcony to face the waterfront of the pool. Architectural details are represented in the same way as in the scene in the movie 1996. The style is complex, and it is a combination of traditional and modern architecture. The base level features classical arches, intricate columns, and floral motifs that evoke Shakespeare’s romanticism, transitioning seamlessly into sleek, modern elements like large windows, neon elements, and angular shapes on the upper levels. The facade added with winding vines and layered staircases to connect the facade of the building visually and emotionally, symbolizing Romeo and Juliet’s love climbing through obstacles.
Level 1 (Reality): The grounded scenes like the wedding and the party establish the tangible foundation of their love.
Level 2 (Elevated Love): Scenes like Juliet’s balcony and room represent their growing connection and idealized romance. Besides, I use the elevator as a functional element connecting these layers, symbolizing the movement between reality and dreams.
*Interior Design:
Level 1 – Zone A: The Pool Tunnel and Horse Barn
- A beautifully detailed tunnel beneath the pool features elegant sculptures and climbing plants adorning the walls, creating a romantic and immersive atmosphere.

- Romeo’s quarters feature knight’s equipment, including shields and swords, along with handwritten letters on a rugged wooden table and a small, old bed, reflecting his simple yet noble lifestyle.
- The director’s room, a secret creative space within the model, pays tribute to the visionary behind the 1996 film. As the writer, he can alter and expand the story’s details, making this a storytelling hub within the build.
- His room is designed as a grand library, complete with a classic wooden desk, a cozy chair, and a large window overlooking the world he has created.
