Cultural Resources

The Cultural Resources set set showcases the use of archaeological methods to help in understanding the past and preserving cultural resources. The set consists of two distinct sections, a historical site section and survey and excavation section.

The historic site section consists of ruins from a building, an old abandoned stripped-down car, and a capped well that is now overgrown. The survey and excavation section consists of an upland area with shovel tests and an excavation unit, as well as a rockshelter on the far side of the upland. To excavate the unit, one of the sides of the unit lowers down and the unit levels can be lifted out and removed as the excavation progresses. Each level has artifacts from the Industrial, Medieval, or Iron Ages. Different soil horizons can also be observed in the excavation unit.

Along with the different sections, this set comes with artifacts from different time periods, excavation tools, a screen and bucket, a GPS unit to record sites and artifact provenience, a ladder, a laptop, and two archaeologists.

Building off of my original Archaeological Excavation Lego Idea, I built the Cultural Resources set as a more comprehensive and fun way to explain archaeology and cultural resource management to non-archaeologists. This would make a great Lego set since it is interactive, promotes STEM, can be used as a display, and complements existing Lego sets, such as the Natural History Museum. The Cultural Resources set would be a must have for archaeology and historical architecture enthusiasts.
