The Princess Bride - The Guilder Frontier

Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...

Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try and stay awake.

Oh. Well thank you very much. Very nice of you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming.

And with those words, the most quotable, and perhaps even the greatest, movie of all time began. The fact that no Lego set has ever been produced based on The Princess Bride is, you guessed it, inconceivable!

Of course, a movie this good deserves an incredible set, and should this be a one off set, it needs to provide you with everything you need to reenact the entire movie. So I give you the Guilder Frontier, complete with two pirate ships, a shrieking eel, the Cliffs of Insanity, the ruins where the Man in Black duels with Inigo Montoya, the boulders thrown by Fezzik, the makeshift table where the battle of wits take place with Vizzini, the hill where Buttercup pushes down the Dread Pirate Roberts, and of course the Fire Swamp complete with flame spurts, lightning sand, and Rodents of Unusual Size (I think they don't exist!)

Jam packing all of this into one set is impressive, but it would be even more impressive if it was also jam packed with play features, so...

Fezzik features grips on his front and back allowing him to carry three other minifigues up the Cliffs of Insanity, and can later be used to support the Man in Black when he jumps on his back.

The Cliffs of Insanity not only include a rope, but there are two grips built into the cliffs for the Man in Black to hang from once the rope gets cut.

The ruins include the bar that Inigo grabs onto and the Man in Black does flips on, along with a bit of grass that the Man in Black can throw his sword into.

In Fezzik's scene, a lever can be pushed to launch a boulder over the Man in Black's head. He didn't have to miss!

When you sit down at the battle of wits, the Man in Black's chair swivels so that he can look behind himself, and the table cloth also swivels allowing Vizzini to switch glasses. After the two drink from their respective glasses, pushing a lever allows you to knock down Vizzini after his laughing abruptly ends.

The Fire Swamp of course has to feature all three terrors, so pushing in a button allows for flame spurts, which our concealed by minifigure skirts, to pop out from the ground. Elsewhere, another pair of minifigure skirts conceal the lightning sand, and a rope hangs above it allowing Wesley to rescue Buttercup. Of course, there has to be a R.O.U.S. and it is all the better with an operable jaw.

To round out the set, you also get Prince Humperdinck and Count Rugen (the very first Lego minifigure to feature three fingers on its right hand) on horses so that they can track down Princess Buttercup. However, the real value in these two minifigures comes into play if you have a Lego Castle. Of course, you will need "Good luck storming the castle!" But once inside, Wesley can threaten Prince Humperdinck "to the pain." Even better is when Inigo Montoya finds Count Rugen! "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father! Prepare to die!"

When it is all said and done, the set includes approximately 1300 bricks, 7 minifigures, 2 horses, 2 pirate ships, a brick built R.O.U.S., a bit of kissing (you won’t mind so much), and hours of fun! Designing this set took me the better part of two months, I hope that you enjoy it. And, of course, your support is greatly appreciated.

There’s a shortage of perfect Lego sets in this world. It would be a pity not to support this one!
