About Deadwood Ruins
Once an important fortification overlooking a busy road, Deadwood Ruins is now exactly that...ruins. This stronghold was built by a powerful faction of knights many, many years ago to protect travelers along a busy trade route. As time went on the once powerful force began to fall apart and the stronghold was abandoned.
The stronghold now lies in ruin on the edge of a dying forest, or so it would seem. Take caution, a second look at the abandoned structure might get you in trouble, or worse, captured by orcs. Invisible to ye average traveler but a closer look and you'll find that Deadwood Ruins is now home to a group of grumpy orcs and goblins, ready to attack unsuspecting knights and plunder their riches. The orcs have done well for themselves too, they have gathered a large treasure horde and even captured a prisoner.
Three orcs/goblins inhabit the abandoned stronghold. An archer sits patiently in the crumbling tower, while a scout helps ambush unsuspecting targets; meanwhile a large orc guard protects the cave and makes sure the prisoner remains in captivity. A brave Lion Knight occupies the dungeon, awaiting the perfect chance to escape, he is kept company by a Black Knight skeleton, who has been there longer than anyone can remember.
Why I built Deadwood Ruins?
LEGO castle themes have always been one of my favorites. During my teens I slightly grew out of LEGO, which happened to be when the fantasy era was happening. As of recent I have really grown fond of the troll faction from the fantasy era, and with the recent Orc mini figure released in CMF series 24 I was inspired to create a build that would go along with that character. Since trolls/orcs/goblins are known for inhabiting old structures and dwellings underground I decided to create an abandoned stronghold sitting atop a rocky hill, with a cave lair underneath.
Why I believe this would make a great LEGO set?
- It's small in dimensions and piece count (1029), making it easy to obtain and display
- It brings trolls/orcs/goblins to the forefront of LEGO castle
- Has play features that allows fans to build new stories and adventures
- Helps create a diverse and treacherous LEGO castle kingdom full of adversity and heroics
