inspired by the Big Time Rush TV series I grew up with! 🤩
What made me build this idea?
Around 2010 when the dutch Nickelodeon aired the show it had quite the impact, as I remember my friends growing their hair to look like James Diamond. Though it was 12 years later I realised how brilliant this show really was!
I had this secret plan to design the very build your looking at right now, and order all the pieces as a Christmas present for my girlfriend, who was a huge fan of both the TV show and the band as well.
Looking at all the stills and episodes I could find online I fell in love with the silly sound effects and cartoony sense of humour they used.
What about the build itself?
I’ve made sure to include as much of references to the show as I’ve possible could.
From the complex shaped frontside of the building with the rotating door, to the actual studio on the second floor. Complete with a vocal booth that fits Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan. And of course the state-of-the-art recording equipment, mixing consoles, and instruments that Gustavo Rocque needs to produce songs for the band.
The building is packed with golden records and posters of previous bands Gustavo worked with.
And you also might recognise some furniture from the show.
The first floor features the black couch the boys sit on whenever Gustavo feels like yelling at them.
Talking about the boys, for this version I’ve built some purist minifigures of pieces I found on Bricklink. I love how those turned out, yet I think it would be fun to design some updated minifigures when the project reaches a certain amount of supporters.
So why submit this as a Lego Ideas Project?
When the band decided to do a Europe tour, and it got sold out in one minute, I realised there are still a lot of fans of Big Time Rush! And I want to share this lego set with the world.
Also I’m amazed by the designs of recent lego sets like the Avengers Tower and Assembly Square. And I would absolutely love to see what the official lego designers would come up with if they get to redo my idea of the Rocque Records building.
