Music Instruments

A project I have been working on for a while now, is a LEGO concert hall on minifigure scale. One of the first things I designed, were the instruments. It can be quite difficult to build larger instruments on a minifigure scale, but I love music so I tried, and this is the result. The idea that I submitted consists of four classical musical instruments:
  • A concert piano. This instrument is the centerpiece in nearly every orchestra. The word 'piano' is actually a shortened version of the word 'pianoforte', which means soft (piano) and loud (forte). It is an incredibly complex instrument, consisting of 12,000 pieces, 10,000 of which are moving. This model is less detailed though, it consists of 19 pieces.
  • A pipe organ. The pipe organ, praised "King of Instruments" by Mozart, is famous for being able to mimic other instruments. The stops, also called drawknobs, are used for picking the sound the pipe organ makes. The Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ has 127 stops, my LEGO model has four.
  • Three timpani. Because of the distinctive shape of timpani, which makes them look like upside-down tea kettles, they're also called kettledrums. Every classical percussion section has timpani, making them a vital part of my submission.
  • A harp. The harp is one of the oldest instruments in the world, since the invention dates back to 15,000 BC. Many ancient Egyptian tombs feature paintings of people playing the harp. Although mostly played in a classical context, the harp can also be heard in folk, jazz or country music. This harp is made with copper and gold colored pieces.
The instruments are essential for classical music. I think it would make a great LEGO set because it allows your minifigures to explore some new hobbies, or even start an orchestra! Thank you for reading this, I hope you like the idea as much as I do.
