An aesthetic combination of red brick, glass panes, and sky-blue steel panels, the KOIN Center is the beautiful centerpiece of Downtown Portland, Oregon. It was designed by the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership and opened in 1984. At 509 feet, it is the third-tallest building in Portland. Nicknamed "The Mechanical Pencil," it adds a post-modernist flair to Portland's skyline.
I have driven past the KOIN Center all the time and have always thought it would make an incredible LEGO set. The first time I heard that LEGO was making architecture sets, I began thinking that my dream could become reality. As the epitome of Portland's artistic architecture, I thought it would make a lovely addition to LEGO. I designed it on LEGO Digital Designer using approximately 1600 pieces. It took a day or two to complete it, and I spent some time making final adjustments to get everything perfect.
Please take a look at the KOIN Center and decide for yourself whether Portland's "Mechanical Pencil" should be a future LEGO set.
