Help your fellow builder by leaving your feedback based on these three criteria:
- Originality: How original is this - never seen before?
- Building Techniques: How much skill do you think the creator of this MOC has, in terms of building technique?
- Details: Express how much you like the details of the build.
Your feedback is only shown to the creator as well as yourself. It is not available for other users to see. The creator won't see your user name.
I started this build to see how well I might be able to model a hand, but as it started to come together, it felt like an opportunity to build the famous 'Thing' from Charles Addams' 1930s comic strip, 'The Addams Family.'
Most recently, 'Thing' appeared in Netflix's new adaptation 'Wednesday' focusing on the Addams family daughter and starring Jenna Ortega.
'Thing' (full name Thing T. Thing :) first appeared in Addams's 1954 book Homebodies, but didn't take on his disembodied hand appearance until 1964's 'Addams Family' TV show. His look changed again as the special effects technology of 1991's 'Addams Family' movie allowed him to run around like a five legged spider. (And even drive a car in the sequel!)
More recently, some Frankenstein-esque scarring and staples were added to his appearance in Netflix's 'Wednesday.' Gomez, the family's patriach, puts 'Thing' in charge of watching over Wednesday while she attends Nevermore Academy, only for Wednesday to force him to help her with solving the mysteries of the school and the town of Jericho.
I've made the hand very poseable - with butterfly joints at the root of index, middle and ring fingers, and I'm going to explore whether automatic movement could be added to create a resting, 'breathing' motion, to give it some real life. :D
I've decided to place it on some herringbone-style flooring for now, but I might change this to a black and white tile pattern. I'm also planning to see if I can source all of the required bricks in a grey colour, to make a real-world version that reflects the black and white origins of the comic strip and TV show. I'm pretty sure we don't have all the required bricks in the colour pictured. :)
Any and all support greatly appreciated, and comments and feedback are especially welcome. I love exploring the profiles and IDEAS of fellow IDEOLOGISTS... is that a thing?
