The most famous museum in Madrid and probably in Spain and the eleventh most visited museum in the World. It contains more than 7900 paintings, 950 sculptures, 6400 drawings, 2400 engravings, 900 coins and 800. Among these works of art there are some by Goya, Velázquez, Bosch, Dürer, Rembrandt, Tiziano, Rafaello, Jan Van Eyk, El Greco, Fra Angelico, Zurbarán, Murillo and Sorolla, and also a great collection of Classical sculpture.
It was built between 1785 and 1819, with reformations in 1882, 1956 and 2007, and was designed by the architect Juan de Villanueva in Neoclassical style
