Mega Man has always been one of my favorite game franchises. When Mega Man Legends came out in December 1997 for PlayStation, it was Mega Man's first adventure in 3D, and it played drastically different than previous Mega Man titles. Many fans of Legends were devastated when Capcom cancelled the 3rd main installment of the game around July 2011. I created this project as I believe it would be a good way to pay homage to my favorite blue bomber, Mega Man Volnutt.
As a child, I loved building and customizing LEGO. I often would take my favorite sets and modify them in ways I felt made them cooler. Recently, I found my passion with LEGO again when LEGO 2K Drive came out. I was really fond of LEGO Racers growing up, and I loved collecting different pieces and building unique and cool vehicles in 2K Drive. I even started trying to build different game characters including Mega Man.
Shortly after that, I started buying LEGO again, and I was back to building and modifying sets. I greatly enjoyed the Sonic the Hedgehog sets. The more I got into it, I felt there needed to be some better ideas for other famous game franchises. I discovered LEGO Ideas and downloaded Bricklink Studio to try my hand at designing my own. It took me a few months of finding the optimal pieces and connections, but I created a large figure of Mega Man Volnutt made out of 587 parts.
I believe a large figure of Mega Man Volnutt would be a great LEGO set for multiple reasons. Fans of the series can show their love for the blue bomber by building this model and posing it however they like. The hands/buster of the model are easily removed and can be replaced with different weapon attachments. I know many LEGO fans loved LEGO Bionicle growing up including myself, and I believe building large figures using a blend of regular LEGO and Technic joints can yield much nicer designs. From a pure design perspective, this model could easily inspire people to design other types of humanoid large figures. I designed this set to be both sturdy and easily modified, so you can pose it however you like without worrying about a part accidently snapping off. Since it features socket type joints, each body part can be detached and swapped with others if people wanted to customize it with other designs.
I am proud to say that I built this entirely with colors and parts that are already available. The only additions needed would be the decorations shown on the head. I built my own model of this to ensure that the build was strong and able to be posed well. I printed out my own decals to see how my decorations would look. I'm very happy with how it turned out, and I believe many people would enjoy this set as well.
So please if you are reading this and like what you see, send me your support. Who knows, if it really takes off, maybe Capcom would be inspired to get Mega Man off the moon!
