Forestmen Outpost

In 1978 LEGO made its first medieval set, often referred to as the Yellow Castle (375). The success of this model encouraged LEGO to go further with the theme, and throughout the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s LEGO continued with what soon became its most popular theme of the time. Nine years after the first medieval set, LEGO released its first Forestmen set. This gang of Robin Hood-inspired outlaws lasted for four years only but has since become a memorable LEGO icon.

In 2022, as a part of its 90-year celebration, LEGO released the Lion Knights’ Castle (10305), which included several of the classic Forestmen characters. Subsequently, LEGO released the Forest Hideout (40567) as a Gift-with-Purchase. Given the reception of these sets and the growing popularity the theme has experienced in recent years, I decided to try my hand at designing a model based on the classic Forestmen sets.

The model is not based on any existing LEGO Forestmen set, but is intended as a throwback to the theme as a whole. I intentionally stuck to the original colour for the LEGO trees, which was black, and throughout the model other wooden features carry the same colour. The model itself features a small stone outpost situated in front of a large tree. The set includes details such as a small campfire, a telescope in the uppermost part of the tower, forest wildlife scattered throughout the model, and a well.

On the first level is a stand for replacing gear, and a small room featuring a writing desk with a candle, and a ladder to the next level. On the higher floor, a telescope extends through the window while the room is illuminated by four torches in the corners. The exterior is adorned with the Forestmen coat of arms. Behind the model is a campfire next to a stump for wood-cutting and a hole in the wall to store fuel for the fire. A patch of pumpkins, various fungi, and some wild rabbits can also be spotted on the ground. In the large tree various squirrels and birds make their home.

I believe that this would be fond throwback to the classic sets, while also being a good display model in its own right if produced.
