Wicked, the enormously popular Broadway musical about the untold story of the two witches of Oz, is currently the fifth longest running show in Broadway history (and still going strong). It is also the second highest grossing musical, surpassing The Phantom of the Opera and behind only The Lion King.
For this model I picked three scenes from the show to focus on.
The first scene I did was for “Popular” - this hit number takes place in the dorm room of the two main characters, Elphaba and Glinda. Next up is the set for when the ladies meet the Wizard in Oz. It took me a while to figure out how to capture the machine’s look in scale. Then in Act Two, the plot begins to merge with the Wizard of Oz story. So the third setting depicts the farmhouse crashed by the tornado. On one side of the stage begins the Yellow Brick Road.
This project is based on the original set design by Eugene Lee. Three tracks are built in this model so the scenery can slide on and off for each scene (like in the actual musical). The back wall has the oz green on one side and the farmhouse red on the other.
For the Minifigures, I included two looks each for Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero for maximum playability. Then I did the main secondary characters: Madame Morrible and the Wizard. This set can function both as a display or for re-enactments.
I believe a set based on Wicked will have a wide audience reach. I can envision people buying their Wicked LEGO set at the souvenir stand during the show’s intermission.
I hope you like this presentation of this Wicked set, and I hope I can earn your support. Thank you very much for your time. Please help me spread the word to other Wicked or theater lovers!
