Abu Simbel is a temple built in the reign of King Ramses the second the most famous pharaoh in the history of Egypt. It was built around 1250 bc and It is located in upper Egypt (South of Egypt). The temple is completely cut out of rock.
The building has a great facade with four great statues of the pharaoh in the seated position. The height of each is 20 meters. This temple was removed from its original place because of the rise in the level of the Nile river due to the construction of the high dam. Water was to completely cover the area of this temple.
The temple has been in its new location since 1964. At a level 60 meters higher than the original spot. It is considered as one of the most important touristic attractions in Egypt.
