This build celebrates the upcoming 100th anniversary of the invention of television, which was developed in San Francisco in 1927. Watching television is one of the most popular leisure activities and forms of entertainment. Some of the most memorable moments in recent history have happened right in the comfort of our living rooms as we stop what we’re doing and gather together to watch live events unfold on television.
Television shows, for the most part, come and go, but viewing live sports stands the test of time. In the early years of television, baseball was considered “America’s Favorite Pastime.” Football has since replaced baseball as “America’s sport” and is quickly growing an international fan base, so I included both sports in the build.
The Television
The design was modeled on the 1969 Motorola Quasar. It’s a visually appealing television set with a wood cabinet exterior and an intricately designed control panel, making it a nice display piece.
Dimensions: 11” x 5” x 9”
Interchangeable Scenes
The television has a removable top, so you can easily replace one scene with another. Color television began rising in popularity in the mid-1960s, but there’s something classic about seeing a retro television with a black and white display. This is why I chose to create the scenes with both color options.
Create Your Own Scenes
Using a 16 x 16 plate and your collection of LEGO, you can recreate your favorite sports moment, tv show, movie scene, or historical news event to display in this television.
