Alcatraz Island

Welcome to The Rock!

That’s right, I’ve constructed a medium scale model of the world famous Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz Island has a long history, but is mostly known as the world’s most secure prison from 1934 to 1963. Today, it’s a tourist attraction, a national landmark and has even been called one of the most “haunted” places In America.

This model features many of Alcatraz’s prominent landmarks including:

The Main Prison

The Dining Hall

Building 64

Lighthouse

The Water Tower

Model Industries Building

The Power House

New Industries Building

Recreations Yard

And the Warden’s House

I started work on this model before set 21043 San Francisco was announced which includes a micro scale model of Alcatraz, but I decided to continue as this is a more detailed model that I believe will appeal to a wide variety of people including people that like architecture, islands, California, history or just want a cool set for their shelf.

This set contains just under 2000 pieces and sits on eight 32 x 32 baseplates. The buildings with windows should be able to be lit up with lights (8870) and battery box (8878).
