The Art of Building Gunpla

Gunpla (Gundam Plastic Model) is the name commonly used for plastic model kits based on the fictional Gundam universe by Bandai. They were sold in Japan during the 1980s and grew in popularity in the 1990s due mainly to the exposure of Gundam in North America and Europe.

Like any other model kits, Gunpla consists of several parts on "runners" that either snap-fits or requires glue to assemble.

There are several tools that you'll need to build your Gunpla :
  • Side Cutter - Used for cutting and trimming plastic parts from their sprue trees (runners)
  • Hobby Knife - Used from precision cutting, trimming and carving
  • Paints and Brushes - There are kits that require some paint work, having both thick and fine tip brushes help in bringing out the details of a kit

The Set

The set includes LEGO representations of the basic tools and of course the Gundam itself - A Super Deformed (SD) version of the RX-78-2 Gundam.
