"Hello, 1960s"

Concept & Design
“Retro Landline Phone 60s” is a wonderful iconic MOC model with approximately 860 LEGO pieces, for celebrating "National Telephone Day" which falls on April 25th each year. It's also a day that we appreciate the work of Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the first telephone and remarked in human history. This invention revolutionized communication, making it possible to transmit voice over long distances and laying the foundation for modern telecommunications.

Based on the style of the 60s, I designed the landline phone to be more dynamic and creative. I used the same technique to make it similar to the original phones with the old-fashioned classic rotary dial-wired fixed landline. In the structure of the model, I focused on the key details such as the shape of the handset, the rotary dial, and the cord. I used a flexible technique to represent the cord. The light grey cord is attached to one end of the handset and the other to the base.

Color Applications:
  • Primary color: Aqua color for the entire phone model to highlight the harmony and beauty of retro design style in the 60s.
  • Secondary color: It's still useful to make the model more interesting and innovative in features.

Bonus:
  • I had A yellow sticky note paper with a red pin that added a touch of realism and functionality to the model.
  • I also created a small bonus scene that is stored inside the phone model. This scene presents a telephone workshop with a nice shelf to display three tiny landline phones, a fancy sofa armchair, and a technician who looking for information to test the phone.

Rotary Dial:
I used a large round plate for building the main dial and small white round tiles for the numbers and it is attached to the rotating mechanism. The back cover opens to showcase the inner workings of the rotary dial mechanism, providing insight into the model's functionality. The interior is thoughtfully designed to reflect the technical aspects of the phone, adding depth and authenticity to the model.

My favorite part of the model is the power of giving form to the iconic of nostalgia. I love that because it is a very thoughtful design to turn into a great retro memory. We can experience so many details on this retro phone from exterior to interior structure as well as the storytelling of the bonus scene. I believe "Retro Landline Phone 60s" would be a great LEGO IDEAS set in the future to celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of the retro style. It is also a nice gift for interior design and home decor.
