Medieval Chess Set

This is a model of a medieval themed chess set. Chess is a game that is played all over the world, especially since the rise in popularity of online chess. I myself have been playing the game since I was a kid. I also have been building Lego models for a very long time. Lego had released quite a few chess sets over the years, from classic sets to Castle themed sets. This set fits neatly in that series.

 

This model has 4665 bricks. The board has measurements of 46.5 cm x 46.5 cm. The king has a height of 10 cm. One of the challenges of making a chess set is to make it aesthetically pleasing as well as functional to play with. This means, among other things, that the pieces have to be easily recognisable and easy to tell apart from one another, without becoming too dull or abstract. I believe that I have achieved this. The king has his crown, the queen wears a dress, the rooks are classic towers, the bishops have their staff, the knights are on horses, and the pawns are crouching to make them smaller than the other pieces.

 

I believe that this model would make for an excellent set, because it is both very suitable for decoration, due to its detailed design, and for playing, due to its robust construction and distinctive features.
