Thanks for the support!
Hi all! Thanks for your support!
"The dancing shoes" will expire soon and I wanted to thank you all for your support!
This was my first product idea submission and getting such positive feedback and support is amazing. It made me realize how important this kind of support is and I definitely also try to give the same to all the other amazing ideas here.
This has been my first Lego Ideas submission, but definitely won't be my last.
So, I hope to see you around!
If you happen to be in Steenwijk, NL next week I might see you there! I'm bringing the dancing shoes ofcourse 😉
Best,
Joost

The dancing shoes learned a new dance!
Someone said to me "You know what would be cool? If they would do a moonwalk in reverse.."
That proved to be a suggestion from the "easier said than done" category, but I pulled it off!
A moonwalk is going backward while you seem to take steps as going forward. To get this to work the shoes had to keep moving in the same direction, while the input is actually reversed. After a lot of tinkering I figured out a reliable and small enough mechanism that has its output always rotating in the same direction, no matter which way the input is rotating.
The animation below shows that mechanism switching. It rolls over two adjacent small gears of which one is connected to the lowest gear on the outside.
As you can see, the mechanism has changed a lot to make space for the new gears. I also had to further lower friction, which is why I added rollers to the front magnets (in the back of the rendered picture).
I hope you like this update!
Fun little fact: Technically this proves that the Efteling theme park could have the original dancing shoes do a moonwalk as well. That would be fun!
