Checkers is a traditional board game for two players and is played on a board of 8 x 8 squares. Only the black squares of the game board are used, on which the stylishly beautiful and disc-shaped pieces are drawn. The aim of the game is to completely beat or immobilize the opponent's pieces by jumping them over and thus win the game.
My idea for a Lego checkers game is based on the color change from one main color in combination with the narrow stripes and dots of the second main color, in my case black and white. This play of colours and materials can also be found in Italian churches of the Renaissance, such as Pisa. In addition, there is the partial and formal language of modern architecture, such as that of the Ticino architect Mario Botta, which has been reduced to a few basic forms.
At the same time, however, there are also echoes of modern technologies such as American space travel, which also appear as a black-and-white contrast. In addition to their graphic color change of black and white, the game pieces impress with their good distinctiveness, they lie securely in the hand and can be fixed very well on the playing field.
Another challenge was the construction of a bend-resistant thin game board, which consists of an ingenious arrangement of interlocking foundation stones in the size of 2 x 4 under its regular surface with smooth 2 x 2 tiles. Based on a building board of 48 x 48, all 6 x 6 black and white squares can be accommodated on the available space. A single field is made up of four 2 x 2 tiles and one middle 2 x 2 tile with knob; this provides a better grip and easier assembly of the game pieces.
Finally, the individual playing fields appear on the sides in their basic colour, which gives the board a simple and modern homogeneity. All in all, the checkers game appears to be beautiful, modern and very decorative with the potential to become a real Lego classic!
I would therefore be very happy if the checkers game would be popular with many other Lego fans and would be available as a set in the future.
