This is a LEGO reproduction of the painting "Composition with large red plane, yellow, black, gray and blue" by Piet Mondrian. The original artwork looks simple but one can see that a lot of thought went into the composition. While creating this LEGO artwork I have, therefore, focused a lot on making the composition as close to the original as possible but then on a 32x32 studs scale.
The difference between grey and white is very subtle in the original artwork. To recreate this effect I have chosen to play with depth instead of using a different color. Those planes that are grey in the original are in the background. The shadows will make those planes look less white in comparison to the white planes that are in the foreground. Next to that, I have chosen to use both a lighter and a darker tile for each colored plane to give it a playful look.
This would be a great addition to the art collection of LEGO. It is an iconic piece in art history and it is instantly recognizable. The bright color palette of the original artwork makes it very suitable to recreate with LEGO. It is not only fun to build but it is also beautiful to put on your wall.
The LEGO artwork is 32x32 studs large and consists of approximately 1000 - 1100 pieces.
