Merlin: Isle of the Blessed
“Go to the place that men call the Isle of the Blessed, where the power of the ancients can still be felt. There you will discover Arthur's salvation.”
-Kilgharrah, the Great Dragon
BBC’s wonderful show Merlin has run for five thrilling seasons and now the adventure continues in LEGO form! The series Merlin is a reimagining of the classic King Arthur tales, with the sorcerer Merlin as a young man living in Camelot where magic is banned. He must conceal his powerful abilities while protecting the kingdom. Filled with magic, action, and monsters, Merlin would be a perfect addition to LEGO.
This set is loosely based on the episodes, “Le Morte d’Arthur” and “The Darkest Hour.” Merlin has journeyed to the mystical Isle of the Blessed to rescue his friend and mentor Gaius, only to find himself attacked by vicious wyvern and the eerie Dorocha. After narrowly escaping these, he comes face to face with his enemy, the beautiful but dangerous Nimueh. Is Merlin’s magic powerful enough to save Gaius?
The main feature of the set is the enchanted Isle of the Blessed. The setting is highly researched and show accurate. I attempted to recreate the castle-like architecture and crumbling stone look of the show in my building style.
Several show accurate elements and play features are included, such as: An exploding wall to blast a minifigure through; magic flick fire missiles to shoot out of the wall, a rod to shove a minifigure; the vicious, dragon-like wyvern; the ghostly Dorocha; plenty of fire for Nimueh to shoot at Merlin; and the magical Cup of Life.
Three minifigures are included: The young wizard, Merlin, the wizened mentor, Gaius, and the lovely but villainous Nimueh (reusing the ice skater’s skirt to emulate a tattered dress).
This set would allow Merlin fans to reenact many key moments of the show in LEGO form, as well as create their own magical stories in a land of myth. If you want LEGO Merlin to become a reality, please support and spread the word. Thank you for reading.
