Inspiration:
About a year ago I had got something into my head. It seemed to be a good idea to build the most famous Hungarian locomotives.
But where should I start? Of course at the begining with the steam engines. Let it be the legandary one, the MÁV Class 424. It's decided.
The very short history:
The 424 series was engineered and manufactured in Hungary. 514 units had been made between 1924 and 1958. As a multi purpose engine it was used for passenger trains and hauling and later for commuter trains. Was allowed to fly with 90 km/h what was a good number at that times but the unofficial speed record is above 120 km/h. There were several modifications as the years passed and was used till the early '80s. Two working engines remained and serve as nostalgia train sometimes.
The modell:
Not modelled a particular one, more like my favourite mixed version from the early era. It's a 'motorized display set 'so you can observe the rods' movement if lifted with some bricks under the frame. The scale is 1:33. All big wheels are direct driven by two power function L motors. The battery box and the infra receiver sit inside the tender. Tried to keep the scale of the sub-units as close as possibble to the real one, and to add enough but not too much details.
Numbers:
- Almost 3000 pieces
- 73 cm length (with the tender)
- 11.2 cm width
- 15.6 cm height
- 2.3 kg
Become a set:
The buffalo's (one of the most known nickname of the 424) structure is quite unique with her high boiler setup and was an iconic locomotive in Hungary for decades. I believe it do 'deserves to preserve' for the future as a set also. For every train fans and modellers and whoever likes it.
The rendered pictures are without the pneumatic tubes as I couldn't find them in stud.io.
