Hudswell Clarke Works No. 1800/1 "Thomas"

This project idea is based on Hudson Clarke Works No. 1800/1, also known as Thomas. The locomotive was originally built in 1947 for the British Sugar Corporation to work at Woodston. In the 1960s, diesel locomotives took over most of the locomotive's work, but it was still well maintained. In 1970, the Peterborough Railway Society (which later became the Nene Valley Railway) set up shop in a compound in one of the sidings owned by the BSC. It was at this point that the locomotive was nicknamed Thomas, due to its blue livery resembling Thomas the Tank Engine.

In 1971, The Railway Series author Reverend Wilbert Awdry officially named the locomotive Thomas. The locomotive continued service until 1973, when the BSC sold it to the Peterborough Railway Society. In the 1990s, when its ten-year boiler certificate expired, Thomas went under an overhaul. During this, the locomotive was fitted with a vacuum brake system. The engine attracted thousands of visitors. At one point, police had to be called to control traffic. Thomas was then taken out of service in 2002 for a ten-year overhaul. The locomotive continued service until 2013, when it went through yet another major overhaul. It was put back into service in 2016, and currently remains at the Nene Valley Railway.

The set comes with the locomotive and a couple pieces of track.
