ABOUT YOURSELF
- Who are you?
Carrie Annis
- Where are you from?
New Hampshire, USA
- How old are you?
28.
- What do you study or do for a living?
I am a preschool teacher (2-3 year olds).
- What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy playing video games, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, puzzles, Lego sets, and watching football.
- Have you created any LEGO MOCs (my own creations) that you’re particularly proud of? What is it, why are you proud of it and do you have a photo of it?
My first and only MOC is the Harry Styles Love on Tour 2023, I am very proud of it! This was all brand new to me, so it was a learning curve.
- How, and when, did your interest in LEGO products come about?
I’ve enjoyed Lego bricks since I was a child, but I didn’t do them often. More recently, I have enjoyed the flower and succulent sets!
I saw that there were a couple of other Lego Idea submissions that I was interested in- Harry’s House and One Direction’s What Makes you Beautiful. I wanted to make my own in celebration of Harry Style’s finishing his tour.
- What does the LEGO hobby mean to you? How does it fit into your life? E.g. build, display, meetups, play the games or 'just' watch the cartoons.
My best friend and I will meet up and do Lego builds together sometimes. If we aren’t together, we’ll be talking on the phone while each of us works on our own sets.
- What is your favorite LEGO theme (current or past)? Why? And has any theme inspired your building style or preference in any particular way?
I adore the flower/succulent sets. I enjoy all of the colors and that I can display them easier because they tend to take up less space than other sets.
- What is your favorite official LEGO set ever? Why?
I love the flower/succulent sets. I love all the colors and how realistic they look. I also really like the Winnie the Pooh set but I haven’t been able to get my hands on one.
ABOUT YOUR PROJECT
- Where did your interest in this particular model come from?
A recent obsession with Harry Styles was the start of an interest in this model. He was ending his tour and I wanted a way to celebrate his tour as well as give other people a way to celebrate it. I had also recently seen the other Lego Ideas reach 10,000 supporters (Harry’s House and the One Direction one) and thought that I could do it too!
-
How long was the process of making the project, and what did you have to research as well? What kind of prep, research and design phases did you go through to produce your creation?
To start, I’ve never been to a Harry Styles concert, so I had to watch videos to see what the stage/band looked like. It took me a few weeks for the start of the stage, I struggled to learn how to use the Studio app and the names of all the Lego pieces. I had been posting my idea on TikTok and Instagram to get more supporters and people were requesting different outfits, so I worked on that for quite a few weeks making different outfits on the Parts Designer app. - What special challenges did you face creating the model? What was the most difficult part to recreate?
I had a hard time finding which pieces I needed, I don’t know the names of many of the pieces. I had a hard time making the stage as realistic as possible, so it looks a little different from how I was expecting/wanting.
- If you could talk to yourself before you started on this project, what would you tell them? What do you know now that you wish you knew then?
You’ve got this! So many people will love your idea, and you will reach your goal of 10,000 supporters within a few months!
- How long did it take to complete the model? Did you finish it fairly quickly, or did it take a long time? And how did the build time compare to the time you spent promoting your Product Idea to reach 10,000 supporters?
It took me a few weeks to create this project. I worked many long hours on it and had to start over many times because I was so new to using the Studio app. It seemed that the build time was about the same, maybe more, compared to promoting my product idea. I was sharing my idea and creating more outfits on the Part Designer app as requested by people who were supporting me!
- How did it feel when you reached the magic 10,000 votes, and how long did it take?
It feels AMAZING! It doesn’t seem real, even days later I still go to check to see how many supporters I have…it’s already at 10,000!
- Approximately how many LEGO bricks did you use to create your model?
Approximately 698 pieces.
- If you built your model digitally, what software did you use to build and render your model?
I used LEGO Bricklink Studio.
- If you used custom stickers or prints for your design, how did you create them, or where did you get them?
I did not use stickers, but I used Photoshop and the Part Designer App to create some of Harry’s outfits!
ABOUT LEGO IDEAS
- Do you have any useful advice about creating a successful LEGO Ideas project?
Don’t give up! There were a few weeks when it seemed like I was never going to make it to 10,000. I would get just a few supporters a day. Keep sharing your idea on different social media sites! Message people!
- What (if any) methods did you use to advertise and attract support to your Product Idea?
I mainly used TikTok, as well as Instagram and X (Twitter).
- What is your favorite LEGO Ideas Product Idea (besides your own, of course)? Are there any Product Ideas you think have been overlooked?
I love the One Direction-What makes you beautiful and Harry’s house.
- What is it about the platform that attracts you? What tips would you give to anyone who is thinking about uploading an idea?
That anyone can do this! It does take hard work, but totally worth it when you finally reach your goals.
- Do you have plans to submit any other Product Ideas in the future? If yes, can you give us a hint what that might be?Potentially, not sure what it will be yet!
