Ready to become the new mayor of your own Lego city?
IDEA
As a child I spent days building and expanding my LEGO city. It was so big it occupied a whole room! Now that I'm older and have moved around, I don't have the space or the time to set it up. Yet, creating your own city in bricks remains the ultimate dream of a lot of Lego fans.
With my LEGO ideas set 'Mini Modular City' I want to recreate this feeling in microscale. It fits perfectly in any interior and is fully customizable to your liking!
CONCEPT
- Playful
I wanted to create a playful and colorful design of a city in motion. Each building has its own unique
style and color palette to show the diversity of the place. Open spaces bring greenery and
character to the set and introduce lively activities for that typical urban feel!
- Universal
The architecture shows the function of the building in a playful way. It's not bond to any specific
culture and is recognizable for every Lego fan. Universal themes were chosen throughout the
model. It features:
A school, a skatepark, a theater, a playground ,a city park,
a bakery, an apartment block and a rowhouse!
urban features: trees and vegetation of all kinds, a mailbox, benches, lanterns, planters and bins
skatepark features: two halfpipes and several quarter pipes, some boxes and two rails
playground features: a playhouse with a slide, two swings and a spinner
- Modular
Flexibility and customization were key aspects of the design. With the modular system you can
give your own twist to the city! Click, switch and play around with different combinations. Present
the model in one continuous row or in several smaller compositions. You're the urban planner!
- Microscale
Designed as a display model with maximum flexibility, it's easy to rearrange and move around.
With a depth of only 8 studs (7cm / 3in.) it can be placed anywhere. It doesn't have to occupy a big
surface to give you this feeling of an entire city!
It was a challenge to put so many details in the model at this scale. Creativity was key! Every brick
matters. Each building has a unique design and different techniques were used to create the
windows, the balconies, the roof and the activities on the ground floor. The statuette piece was
great at this scale to bring the city to life!
As an architect and Lego builder it was a really nice experience to design and build this set. I think a lot of Lego fans will enjoy this too! So get ready to make your own city come to life!
Play on the swings! Show your best trick in the skatepark!
Get some fresh pastries from the bakery around the corner.
And get your tickets for tonight's theater show.
The city is yours.
