📰UPDATE📰

We've heard your questions and doubts about this challenge. We want to make things as smooth as possible, so we came up with an FAQ. We'll keep an eye out on the comments, and will try to support everyone. In the meanwhile, please check out the questions and answers bellow:

FAQ

  • Q: When the rules say “bricks” does this just mean the standard 1x2, 2x4 etc bricks or does it mean elements like plates as well?
A: You can use any LEGO piece, except for Technic or Duplo bricks. Plates are OK to use, so are any bricks with hinges, corner bricks, panels, windows, dust bins, sloped bricks, bricks with pins, clips, or inside corners.

  • Q: Can I use minifigure pieces such as hair for decorating?
    A:
You can use minifigure parts to decorate your build, like using a hairpiece to simulate a bush, for example. Just don’t include a complete minifigure.

  • Q: Is this only for Lego structures and buildings?
    A:
For this challenge, we’re looking for structures, buildings and scenes. Basically, something the in game characters would be able to interact with. The build needs to be static, and there’s nothing fun about a static giant lizard right?

  • Q: Do I have to play Fortnite?
    A:
No, although playing our LEGO Islands might give you some really good inspiration.

  • Q: What are the maximum number of pieces?
    A:
No minimum or maximum as long as it meets all the criteria:

  1. Height limit: Keep your build under 25 bricks tall (that's about 24 cm or 9.8 inches—give or take a brick or two).
  2. Baseplate size: Your creation should fit on a max of a 32x32 baseplate (which is roughly 25.5 cm x 25.5 cm or 10 x 10 inches). But hey, you can go smaller if you want! You don’t need to use a baseplate—this is just for measuring!
  • Q: Do we know what the "epic LEGO Fortnite loot" for finalists is?
    A:
The extra gifts for the 15 finalists will be an assortment of Fortnite merchandise. It’s a surprise package, so we don’t want to spoil the fun!

  • Q: Can our builds include moving parts?
    A:
You can use hinges or any other LEGO part you need to make your build shine. For example, you can use a door piece with hinges. Just make sure the door is closed or that the angle isn’t meant to opened or closed.

  • Q: Can I use stickers or printed bricks?
    A:
No bricks or tiles with printing on them, please. The exception is the minifigure heads. Please note that if your build ends up being rendered, the face prints might not look the same.

  • Q: Can you use skeleton heads on the build
    A:
Yes, as long as it’s for decoration. You cannot build the whole skeleton. They are eerie, and cool, but we don't want to take the spotlight away from LEGO® Skull trooper!

  • Q: Are bricks with pin/axle holes allowed? If so, can we use pins and axles to connect and rotate them?
    A:
You can use any LEGO part (just not technic or DUPLO). Your build will need to be static, so no moving parts.

  • Q: Can I reference Fortnite in my build?
    A:
You can reference Fortnite, or LEGO Islands, in the description. As we don’t accept stickers or printed bricks, you won’t be able to mention those IPs in the build itself.

  • Q: What do you mean by “no negative space”?
    A:
We don’t want any viewable, hollow builds. For example, this box monster is a build with depth but the eye element blocks the hollow interior from view.

Let the bone-chilling fun begin—if you dare! Submit your entry here.
