The Lohner L provided the mainstay of the Austro-Hungarian naval air force during 1915 and 1916, operating in the Adriatic against allied shipping and submarines. This long, slender flying boat is characterized by side-by-side crew seating and swept-back wings. A captured example of this type was copied by Italian designers, resulting in the birth of the equally successful Macchi flying boat series.
