Creepy Crayon

Purple. Pointy. Perfect. This is the Creepy Crayon from the 2022 New York Times bestselling book, "Creepy Crayon!", by Aaron Reynolds. I have read this book dozens of times to my kids, so I decided to recreate the Creepy Crayon in Lego-form.

This 709 piece set contains the Creepy Crayon and a display holder. Following the artistic style of the book's illustrator, Peter Brown, the Creepy Crayon was made using two different shades of purple with black bands near the top and the bottom. The Creepy Crayon has so many facial expressions in the book, that it was hard to choose which expression to make. In the end, I chose the expression the crayon was making when Jasper fell asleep holding it on the couch. I felt that expression gave the crayon the right amount of creepiness for the set.

Finally, the display holder is designed to lay flat on a shelf or desk. I built the sides fairly shallow so that it does not interfere too much when viewing the Creepy Crayon, while still preventing it from rolling around.

Ultimately, I built this set because my kids love the book and I wanted to make it for them. Along those lines, the Creepy Crayon will make an excellent Lego set since the book is loved by children and adults alike worldwide. It would make for an excellent display while also providing a great bonding experience between parents and their kids as they build something together that they love.
