The Sphinx is thought to have been built 4500 years ago by Pharaoh Khafre son of the Pharaoh Khufu of the Great Pyramid fame between the years of 2603-2578 B.C.E.
The monument measures 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high, the Great Sphinx is one of the world’s largest ancient monuments still standing. Original it was brightly painted in gold, blue, yellow and other colours.
The monolith which stands on the Giza Plateau about 20Kms from Cairo has not only stood the sands of time but many wars both ancient/modern and also many different rulers not only Egyptian but also the Romans and Hittites just to mention two.
The model consists of 284 parts.
