1K+ Update: More Details -- Sides and Innards!
First of all: THANK YOU! I'm so blown away by the level of support this project has received in only one week! This clock becoming a set would fulfill a lifelong dream, and your support means the world to me.
Since a few people in the comments were interested in seeing the clock from other angles and getting a sense of its inner workings, I'm attaching a few more pics.
In this first image, you can see the roof a bit better, which is designed (like the rest of the clock) to look like it's carved from wood:
Here's the left side, which includes the adjustment knob:
Here's the right side, which includes the windup knob (which is also attached to a motor):
Here's a better view of the clock face and hands:
Here's our cuckoo, first waiting patiently and then emerging on his scissor mechanism:
And then here's what the clock itself looks like without a face! You can see how the three hands come together coaxially, which was one of the most difficult challenges to figure out: the central axle connects to the second hand, the 1x2 round bricks around it connect to the minute hand, and the gear on the side connects to a rack that controls the hour hand.
Some might wonder: Why use EV3? Only one reason: I wanted the "cuckoo" sound to come from the clock itself, rather than an external device like an iPhone or iPad. Otherwise, everything in here is completely replicable with Powered Up components.
Another detail I will eventually add to the original description: the design of the clock allows you to program the cuckoo to fire off at any interval, not just every 60 seconds. So if you'd like it to appear on the hour, chiming three times for 3pm, four times for 4pm, eleven times for 11pm, etc., that's also possible.
What would that be like? Perhaps if we get to 5,000 supporters, I'll give you a sneak peek...
With gratitude from Cuckooland,
Matt
