OSIRIS-REx is a spacecraft that is planned to return asteroid material to Earth. My model contains about 90 pieces, and features a dual-jointed arm, Sample Return Capsule, swiveling solar panels, observation experiments, and main spacecraft engines. My model can stand on a clear pedestal or on the surface of asteroid Bennu.
The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on September 8, 2016, and is planned to arrive at Bennu in August 2018. A robotic arm will briefly contact Bennu and collect as much material as possible. OSIRIS-REx will depart Bennu in March of 2021 and return to Earth in September 2023. The Sample Return Capsule will safely re-enter Earth's atmosphere and land in Utah, United States.
My model is composed entirely of LEGO pieces and is modelled after the real-life NASA spacecraft. For more information about this mission, feel free to visit www.asteroidmission.org
I hope you enjoy my model, thank you for reading and for your support!
