However, I have yet to see a great, full-scale lightsaber BLADE that impressed me. The best I've seen is http://www.flickr.com/photos/legoadmiral2012/10600512695/lightbox/, and even then, someone remarked, "Gotta admit, the blade seems a bit short..."
I did some searching around and found that 36 inches (91.44 cm) is more-or-less the 'standard' blade length according to George Lucas.**
LEGO bricks being 9.6 mm high, this works out to 95¼ bricks in length, so this was my starting point.
I apologize for the quality of the picture; this is my first attempt at this concept.
My idea is to allow the user to customize the core color to whatever shade they would like. I also like the idea of using a TECHNIC-style cross-axle fiber-optic filament to generate light down the blade's length from its interior.
WARNING: While full-sized and designed to look AWESOME, these blades are not designed to be used for anything other than display purposes only.
Below you can see some of the core color options. The fiber optic or LED cable could potentially run through their center to light-up the unit. I have colored the exterior shell white to make the colors really stand out. I would anticipate additional transparent colors being available (like purple, teal, etc.).

** Yes, there are 'dual-phase' sabers, etc. but I'm talking about one that looks 'correct' in an aggregate sense.
