In the Sierra Nevada in California, in the United States of America, in the year 1848 the Gold Rush began with the cry of “Gold, gold on the American River”.
The gold seekers immersed themselves in the nature of the mountains and on the banks of the streams began a hard work of searching for the precious metal.
Noah Smith, a farmer originally from Sacramento, as soon as he learned of the discovery of gold on the banks of the American River near Coloma decided to undertake this new adventure together with his nephew George Brown.
The two in search of fortune, with hearts full of hope, gathered their few things and their savings and with a goat, Sophia, and an old horse headed towards Coloma.
Arriving at the City of Coloma, Noah mistook the nag for a small boat with which the two rowed up the American River to settle in a clearing at the foot of two waterfalls.
With what they found on site they built a small shed using the boat as a roof, inside only two camp beds and a safe corner for the chickens, a barrel to hide the gold and a window made using the wheel of a cart.
George tireless with his young age dug and sifted the bottom of the stream all day, Noah with his inseparable mandolin cheered up the evenings and took care of cooking for both of them.
