Toyed with the idea of increasing the size of buildings...

Went from 6 studs wide to 8 studs to see what it would look like. Too big for production IMO but it really stands out.

Latest changes to real life towers build...

New perspective...

Some changes...

I've been looking at making some changes. Most notably I'm looking at changing from a square base to a shape that more accurately reflects the shape of land the Towers were built on. Also a change to building  3 to make the shape much closer to what it used to be. The building technique for 3 requires flat plates across the bottom which is more like most Architecture sets anyway. Also changed the main antenna to again be more accurate to what it was- named white and black rather than grey.

Don't worry about the "mini towers" on the left- just playing with an idea, not part of this set.

The right shows the reinforcements I'm putting behind the walls. Settled on 1x4 arches because these were half the price almost of regular 1x4 bricks on Bricklink, but either will work just fine.

I built it in real life with those arches and it is as solid as a rock.

Below is the back/sphere.

Building technique and reinforcement,

While building this set with real bricks it became apparent that building the 4 walls 6 bricks high and then trying to cap them with a 6x6 plate was harder than I expected- since none of the bricks overlap like they would in a traditional LEGO build it was hard to line them all up.

I found it was much easier to build them 3 bricks up from the bottom, and then 3 bricks down from the plate going on top- the pieces met much easier and were a lot faster and less frustrating then trying to get the whole plate across the top.

Further, although the initial design is sturdy enough to sit on a shelf I found while trying to remove/move the completed towers that applying pressure in the wrong places could break the walls. I strongly suggest using 1x4 bricks to reinforce the structure, as designed beflow will make the towers far stronger than relying just on the exterior walls.

Got most of it built in real life...

I am still waiting on some pieces but figured I'd build what I have- it's 90% correct at this point- used photoshop to match some of the colors- where I didn't have gray pieces I used white. Some pieces, like the sphere, I don't have at all yet.

The cylinders next to 3 WTC, honestly I forgot they were there when I took the pictures, they weren't supposed to be there.

Made some slight changes that I will be keeping such as the red light on the main antenna.

It's a tall image- if ti doesn't display properly you can find it here:
