A Lord on Vorton

Welcome to the end of chaos, and the beginning of perfection!

Out of everything to come out of Lego Dimensions (2015), the main villain, Lord Vortech, is by far the coolest aspect. He was originally meant to become a playable character, but, sadly, the game was discontinued before it could come to light. Due to this cancelation, I felt inspired to create a full blown set to bring this awesome character the justice he deserves.

For this, I knew immediately that I wanted to create a build based on his giant form from his many boss fights. In the game, his giant form is made up of floating multicolored parts, which made the assembly of this a bit more of a challenge, but I settled on combining different shades of blues and grays to capture that otherworldly look. I also built a giant version of his staff to go along with it, which was not featured in the game, but I found it looked more imposing with it included in the final result.

For the throne, I shrunk it down from its original size in order to keep it consistent with the scale of Vortech’s giant form. The build allows one to display the normal sized Vortech minifigure, and I even modified it a bit so as to not risk wrinkling his cape. The size of the throne is also just big enough to house each of the Foundation Elements from the game behind its back, without compromising the shape of the display base.

Key Features
  • Lord Vortech (minifigure) - a first-time ever physical version of the character, wielding his special staff.
  • Vortech's Throne (display piece) - the greater area of Foundation Prime has never been represented in any sets prior, and its unworldly architecture provides a curious and engaging build process.
  • The Foundation Elements - on the backside of Vortech's throne, one can find a complete collection of the twelve Foundation Elements featured within the game, each with their own designated storage spot.
  • Lord Vortech (brick-built figure) - complete with the articulation and mobility of a regular minifigure, the giant form of Lord Vortech stands at approximately 6.5 inches tall. His staff is by far the tallest portion of the build, standing at almost 9 inches in height. It can be gripped by Lord Vortech to create a number of different dynamic poses.

The title of this build is drawn from the in-game Vortech boss theme of the same name.
