Art Nouveau Scheibler's Powerhouse

Prepare for a journey through time...

Background:

In 1910 in Łódź, a city that is famous for the textile industry, a building unique on a European scale is developed - the Karol Scheibler's Powerhouse.  Its uniqueness is created by the extremely modern solutions for those times - construction technique and structure. For example these are magnificent arches and glazing that make the entire Art Nouveau elevation seem to be comprised of glass.

Presently, this pearl of Art Nouveau architecture is redeveloped and a new function will be given to it. Thanks to the revitalisation, the building will not only regain its former splendour , but it will become available for the residents of the city. I would like to make it possible that every LEGO enthusiast will be also able to build it with the blocks.

Model:

I have been fascinated by architecture for years, but it wasn't until the interest in Scheibler's Powerhouse that inspired me to create a project on a larger scale than before. Thanks to its diverse body, the powerhouse resembles a palace from the outside. Almost the entire building consists of a characteristic red brick, which is combined with contrastive plastered panels. Thanks to it the building acquires lightness. And let's remember that it is an industrial building. The variety of colors and materials used presented for me an interesting challenge, and searching for the right blocks that will capture the atmosphere of the Powerhouse often lasted for weeks.

LEGO blocks have been connecting generations for years and this goal was also behind the revitalisation of the Powerhouse. The unconventional, surprising, grand scale building comes alive today, combining history with modernity, but also different generations. Again, it opens to people and for people. This building is a kind of symbol - the revitalisation of historic spaces where history is combined with modernity.


Main Features:


In order to celebrate the date of its erection, my LEGO Powerhouse model consists of exactly 1910 elements. It was not an easy task, but thanks to various interior details recreated from LEGO, I was able to choose the right bricks.

  • Thanks to this symbolic number, you can build a power plant boiler with a burning fire, a hall of machines with steam-powered turbine units (as well as a whole bunch of pipes, do-hickeys and clocks), an antique, mosaic floor and even ... a powerhouse director's office (with a desk and wall fern).
  • The model is also equipped with nano mini-figures (roughly matching the scale) of workers and the director. These mini-figures can move, e.g., on the imitation of antique stairs or they can shift moving machine levers.
  • You can easily look inside by removing the roof (gently fixed, consisting of 4 fragments) or ... by detaching one of the walls.
  • Apart from the smoke from the chimney, the set also includes its alternative and symbolic ending - the flowers. Thanks to these elements, you can decide for yourself whether your Powerhouse model shows modern or historical times. Thanks to the model, you will be able to create a miniature version of one of the symbols of the industrial revolution, as well as the most important building in the post-industrial area of Łódź in a modern, ecological version.
  • The set consists of the Powerhouse building in 1:200 scale and an additional mini structure: a set of clocks and meters in 1:30 scale.


I believe that my project will enable you to experience a unique journey through time and thanks to the Powerhouse model everyone will be able to feel like a constructor and put together what seems to be impossible to combine - Art Nouveau and modernism. Let's discover the history presented in a colourful way together - golden stained-glass windows, amazing machines, colourful tiles adding atmosphere, as well as a ceiling consisting of coffers of a huge span. Imagine cotton floating in the air, heated red-hot cauldron, people working there - their appearance, worries, emotions.


In conclusion:

The set consists of the Powerhouse building (modelled on the original building in Łódź, Poland) in 1:200 scale and an additional mini structure: a set of clocks and meters in 1:30 scale.

This year we are celebrating the 110th "birthday" of the Powerhouse.

It's the most advanced building I have ever represented with LEGO. I will be grateful for every vote.

W 1910 roku w Łodzi, mieście, które słynie z przemysłu włókienniczego powstaje budynek unikalny na skalę Europejską – Elektrownia Karola Scheiblera.  O jej wyjątkowości stanowią niezwykle nowoczesne jak na tamte czasy rozwiązania – technika budowlana i konstrukcja. To chociażby wspaniałe łuki i przeszklenia, które sprawiają że cała secesyjna elewacja wydaje się złożona ze szkła. Obecnie, ta perła architektury secesyjnej jest w trakcie modernizacji i nadana jej zostanie nowa funkcja. Dzięki rewitalizacji, budynek nie tylko odzyska swój dawny blask, ale i stanie się dostępny dla mieszkańców miasta. Chciałbym sprawić, że każdy pasjonat LEGO będzie mógł go również poskładać z klocków.

Od wielu lat klocki LEGO łączą pokolenia i taki cel również kryje się za rewitalizacją Elektrowni. Niekonwencjonalna, zaskakująca, stworzona z rozmachem budowla dziś ożywa, łącząc historię z nowoczesnością, ale i różne generacje. Znów otwiera się na ludzi i dla ludzi. Ten budynek jest swoistego rodzaju symbolem – rewitalizacji zabytkowych przestrzeni, w których historia łączy się z nowoczesnością.

Żeby uczcić datę powstania tego budynku, mój model Elektrowni LEGO składa się dokładnie z 1910 elementów. Nie był to łatwy zabieg, ale dzięki różnym szczegółom wnętrz odtworzonym z LEGO, udało mi się odpowiednio dobrać klocki.

  • Dzięki tej symbolicznej liczbie, możesz zbudować, kocioł elektrowni z płonącym ogniem, halę maszyn z turbozespołami napędzanymi parą (a także całą masą rur, wihajstrów i zegarów), zabytkową, mozaikowatą posadzką a nawet… gabinet dyrektora elektrowni (z biurkiem i paprotką).
  • Na wyposażeniu są także nano figurki (pasujące mniej więcej do skali) pracowników i dyrektora. Figurki mogą poruszać się np. po imitacji zabytkowych schodów czy przestawiać ruchome wajchy maszyn.
  • Do wnętrza, bez kłopotów zajrzysz zdejmując dach (delikatnie umocowany, składający się z 4 fragmentów) albo… odczepiając jedną ze ścian.
  • Do zestawu oprócz dymu z komina dołączony jest także jego alternatywne i symboliczne zakończenie  – kwiaty. Dzięki tym elementom, możesz samemu zdecydować, czy Twój model Elektrowni pokazuje czasy współczesne, czy historyczne.

Za sprawą modelu będziesz mógł stworzyć w wersji miniaturowej jeden z symboli rewolucji przemysłowej, a także najważniejszą budowlę w postindustrialnej części Łodzi w nowoczesnym już ekologicznym  wydaniu.

Wierzę, że mój projekt pozwoli na wyjątkową podróż w czasie i dzięki modelowi Elektrowni każdy będzie mógł poczuć się jak konstruktor i poskładać to, co wydaje się być nie do połączenia – secesję i modernizm. Odkryjmy wspólnie historię przedstawioną w barwny sposób – złociste witraże, niesamowite maszyny, nadające klimatu kolorowe płytki, a także sufit składający się z kasetonów olbrzymiej rozpiętości. Wyobraź sobie unoszącą się w powietrzu bawełnę, rozgrzany do czerwoności kocioł, pracujących tam ludzi – ich wygląd, troski, emocje.

Na zakończenie:

Zestaw składa się z budynku Elektrowni (wzorowanej na oryginalnym budynku z Łodzi w Polsce) w skali 1:200, oraz dodatkowej mini konstrukcji: zespołu zegarów i mierników w skali 1:30.

W tym roku obchodzimy 110-te „urodziny” Elektrowni.

To najbardziej zaawansowany budynek, jaki do tej pory odwzorowałem za pomocą LEGO.
