The Elephant - Moulin Rouge !

Hello everyone,

This time, I’m bringing you a LEGO build inspired by a movie: Moulin Rouge!

I wanted to pay tribute to Baz Luhrmann’s beautiful film by recreating one of its most iconic settings: the elephant of the Moulin Rouge.

Following the 1889 World’s Fair, a giant stucco elephant actually stood near the Moulin Rouge in Paris. However, the 2001 film’s team took some creative liberties with its design. Naturally, I chose to base my LEGO project on the movie version, complete with its signature heart-shaped headdress.

In the Movie, the elephant serves as Satine’s private chamber, so I’ve included a simplified interior version of this setting within the build :

I had to use a few printed pieces to capture the floral patterns and colorful windows that decorate the elephant.

The set also includes the two main characters, Satine and Christian, as minifigures. In fact, I’ve designed two versions of Satine, corresponding to the two key scenes in which these characters interact inside the elephant.

To enhance the display, I added a microscale Parisian backdrop on the base. Of course, the windmill that gives the film and cabaret their name is present, as well as Christian’s apartment, complete with its famous red neon sign. Two additional printed pieces were needed for this tiny neighborhood: one for the "L’amour" neon sign and another to display the movie title, "Moulin Rouge."

I hope this project will delight fans of the film—I had a wonderful time designing it.

Thank you in advance, and have fun!
