The Wizard of Oz - Follow the Yellow Brick Road!

My set idea is a lego Diorama based upon the wizard of oz. It features Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the cowardly lion in the yellow brick road surrounded by flora. It depicts their frequent singing scenes of “we are off to see the wizard” while walking down the road. The set also has a stand, which was inspired on the oficial Lego Star Wars dioramas sets.
I really enjoyed the Lego Star Wars Dioramas released this year, and those started in me a will to see more lego dioramas based on iconic movies scenes. So, I decided to make one, out of the believe that more people would want the same. And of course, the wizard of oz is one of the most iconic movies of all time, so the theming wasn’t much of a hard choice.
The flowers presented around the yellow brick road in both the movie and the wizard of woz book, are poppies. For that reason, all the flowers on the set have the same colors as those (white, yellow, golden, orange, and red), with some weed growing around them as we get further from the road. But also, beyond the garden where the poppies can be found, there are trees with vines where red flowers grow. The vines connect to each other in a way that creates a roof above the yellow brick road, and some of their flowers can be seen fallen in the road itself, creating some dynamism to the set. The main idea here, was to create some ambience with the perfect organized garden and the wilderness of the same, provided by the weed growing in the flowers and the vines on the trees.
On the road, close to the stand border we can se the yellow bricks that form the entirety of the path, although, in the middle of the set, those bricks aren’t present. That’s just like some parts of the road presented in deeper woods at the movie, and It not only contributes to that sense of wilderness, but also provides a lot of space for the minifigures to be positioned and moved around, without compromising the yellow brick road main identity, the yellow bricks themselves.
Lego sets based on movies have been a success by decades now, to a point where I believe that most lego fans nowadays, are also movie fans. Not only that, recently, there’s been a huge increase of interest in botanic based lego sets. Fot hat reason, I tried to incorporate something from both of these well know and successful concepts in my set idea. And with that said, I think it would make an amazing lego set.
