Discarded Ideas

When we designed LEGO Ideas: 123 Sesame Street, there were several characters and accessories that didn't make it into the set we submitted. There just wasn't enough space to fit in 50 years worth of the show into one design. Here are four additionals builds we wish could have been included, but didn't make the cut for one reason or another.

DID YOU KNOW… Before appearing on Sesame Street in 2017, Gonger was originally a character on the UK co-production, "The Furcheseter Hotel." On Sesame, Gonger and Cookie Monster run a food truck business and try out new recipes for their hungry customers.

Happy Earth Day!

DID YOU KNOW… Joe Raposo wrote the song "Bein' Green" for the very first season of Sesame Street. In the song, Kermit the Frog expresses his ambivalence about his color and wishes that he were some other color instead. However, he soon realizes that there are some powerful associations with the color -- "green can be big, like a mountain, or important, like a river, or tall like a tree." In the end, he decides that he's happy to be green -- "it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be."

DID YOU KNOW… Cookie Monster once disguised himself as the East... err.. Cookie Bunny -- the cute little bunny who goes "hippity hoppity all through town to hide cookies." His specialty was hiding cookies in a place where no one could find them... in his tummy!

DID YOU KNOW… In 1994, Sesame Street did a parody of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” called “Spaceship Surprise: The Next Generation.” Just like Trek, the parody also served as a sequel to the original Spaceship Surprise recurring sketches from the ‘80s.

DID YOU KNOW… "The Monster at the End of this Book" is the best-selling Sesame Street book of all time. In 2012 it, was ranked number ten among the "Top 100 Picture Books" in a survey published by School Library Journal.
